Therapeutic Bodywork Session

60 minutes: $75

After discussing session goals with my client, we decide on which modalities to use.  You reserve the session time and have the array of modalities available to you.  Please read more below about available massage techniques.  There is a $5 discount on all services if paid with cash or check.

Western Style Bodywork combines most techniques, especially Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofscial Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy.  Other techniques are included as needed or as I am inspired to use them, depending on the session goals.   Most clients begin their session in a Western Style - unclothed to their comfort level, under the sheet and blanket, only the body part being worked on is uncovered.  If the client has a complaint of tension or pain to a specific area, I generally begin with no lotion or oil to increase my sensitivity and grip in order to address tight spots. All my work is adjustable to best meet the clients' goals and preferences.

Eastern bodywork techniques are intended to promote healthy flow of Qi, Chi, Ki, Prana, or energy through meridians, chakras or energy pathways in the body.   The theory is that blockages in the energy flow which occur as a result of stress, poor diet, injury, poor sleep, cluttered mind can result in disease, pain, limited range of motion in joints.   I usually combine Shiatsu, Thai, Reiki and acupressure in an Eastern bodywork session, but can also stick to one specific type, if that is the preference.  Also many techniques can be used within a Western style massage.

During an Eastern bodywork session, the client remains clothed, in soft flexible clothing.  Pressure is applied using fingers, hands, knees and feet.  Eastern style also uses stretches and joint mobilization.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as fluid gliding, rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity  and greater flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques to encourage release of trigger points. This process can be uncomfortable, yet the effects are lasting.

Myofascial Massage

Myofascial massage is a technique used to assist in healing injuries, reduce chronic or recent pain and increase range of motion. Myofascial massage targets the fascia - the membrane surrounding muscles - rather than the muscle itself. Since fascia completely encases every muscle in the body, imbalances in the fascia can have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage is an approach to bodywork, specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially catered for the expecting mother, Pregnancy Massage helps relieve discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint and muscle pain, improved breathing and relaxation, increased restful sleep.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage uses various techniques such as deep tissue, compression, Swedish massage, Trigger Point Therapy and Myofscial Therapy, possibly stretches from Eastern bodywork or other Western-based stretches.  The important part for the massage therapist to know when doing "Sports Massage" is a good understanding of anatomy and kinesiology (or the study of the movement of muscles).  With solid anatomical knowledge, help can be applied to the specific area(s) needed for the athlete or weekend warrior.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to specific nerve zones in your feet. Unlike other foot massage that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a holistic approach that aims to harmonize your entire body while leaving the feet in pure bliss. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet and can be positively affected through touch.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching and softening techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Ki (pronounced "key", life force energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.

Reiki

Reiki is an energy healing technique from Japan intended to work with your body's energy field and flow.  It can involve gentle laying on of hands to the body, or to the energy field surrounding the body.  It can even work through casts, braces, bandages, etc.

It can be deeply relaxing, relieve pain and tension, promote healing of tissue after surgery or injury, ease digestive discomfort, assist in balancing levels of energy.  It is a technique that can be used alone or in combination with any other massage and/or aromatherapy.

Acupressure

Acupressure is based in Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy.  There are certain points along energy pathways in the body that when pressure is applied it can help balance the flow of Qi (pronounced "chee"), life force energy.  They are the same points that are used in acupuncture, where a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor applies needles to balance the flow of Qi.  In an acupressure session, I apply firm pressure directly to these points on your body, which can relieve muscle tension and improve circulation and helps balance the flow of Qi.  When Qi is balanced it prevents pain, disease, discomfort.

Thai Massage

90 minutes: $105

Thai massage is different than most other forms of massage therapy. It's also called Thai Yoga massage, because I use my hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like postures and stretches, while also doing softening to muscles and pressing along energy pathways called sen lines.  No oil is applied and you are fully dressed during the session.  The effect can be invigorating and relaxing at the same time.  Please let me know when scheduling, if you would like a full Thai massage session. There is a $5 discount on all services if paid with cash or check.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy or essential oil therapy utilizes the oil essence of aromatic plants for therapeutic purposes.  These phyto-chemicals have many beneficial effects to the skin, body, mind and spirit.
